DESCRIPTION

The Research Analyst will contribute to the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of research project in Malawi and the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Scientist and Country Research Lead in the development of research proposals, progress reports and final reports pertaining to projects.
  • Assist Scientist and other experts in on-station and/or field experiments and the compilation of research data for analysis.
  • Coordinate field trips and preparation of budgets, activity reports and outcomes following project milestones.
  • Process and analyse data to prepare draft scientific articles and other publications related to project(s).
  • Assist in planning and conducting Center sponsored conferences, workshops, training courses, field days and other activities.
  • Assisting in planning and conducting training and capacity building for national partners.
  • Support science publication development through compilation of reports and references relevant to the technical reports of the projects.
  • Develop innovative and creative ideas to assist project team on technical subject matters and project management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for the development of national programs – Sustainable Aquaculture, Resilient Small-Scale Fisheries and Value Chains and Nutrition, and cross-cutting research activities in Gender and MEL.

REQUIREMENTS

This job is open to Malawi Nationals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Agriculture or equivalent – specialization in aquaculture or fisheries science is an added advantage.
  • Minimum five (5) years working experience in research and development, projects monitoring and in a coordination position.
  • Experience in implementing and managing projects with strong statistical skills.
  • Ability to think clearly and analytically, setting priority, meeting deadlines, solving problems and making timely decision.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop state of the art research activities.
  • Proficient in English language both verbal and written.
  • Excellent computer skills – SSPS, GPS etc.
  • Ability to research, plan, implement technical programmes, prepare research reports and publications.
  • Proven ability to work in teams.

      This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with annual salary ranging from MWK8,540,000 – MWK9,060,000 per annum. WorldFish’s NRS shall receive comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, and pension / provident fund contribution.

      Our Offer

      This position will be based at WorldFish’s office in Zomba, Malawi. Interviews are expected to be held in May 2019. Only shortlisted candidate will be notified and expected to attend the interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for an initial 7 months fixed term contract, /strong> with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
