Natural Resources College

Natural Resources College, was integrated into LUANAR as a University Campus in December 2014 and reports to LUANAR Management and Council while retaining its mandate and autonomy to develop and grow. Its mandate is to train Extension Officers and other frontline staff in the agricultural sector, both public and other non-state actors. It has since broadened its spectrum of programs to embrace agricultural, environment, and natural resources management.

The Agricultural Infrastructure and Youth in Agribusiness Project (AIYAP) is a fiveyear project that aims to use irrigation infrastructure as an enabler and facilitator to address the twin problems of food insecurity and high rate of youth unemployment within the context of 2011-2016 Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS). AIYAP will develop two large scale irrigation schemes at Linga (Nkhata-Bay) and Dwambazi (Nkhota-kota) covering a total of 1,945 hectares, targeting 10,000 beneficiaries with special focus on the youth (about 50%).

AIYAP will also promote youth ownership of agribusiness, access to funding/credit through seed funds, loan facilities and risk sharing from Micro Finance Institutions, agro-processing, engaging in value addition, modern methods of crop diversification and market linkages.

AIYAP has Four main components namely: (a) Irrigation Infrastructure & Watershed Management; (b) Value Addition and Youth Entrepreneurship in Agriculture; (c) Agra-Cooperative Development for Employability; and (d) Project Management and Institutional Strengthening.

Under the Value Addition and Youth Entrepreneurship component, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Natural Resources College Campus) will implement the Enable Youth sub-component through the training ofup to 500 young agripreneurs from the project catchment area.

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources-NRC Campus in conjunction with The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development with funding from the African Development Bank (ADB) under the Agriculture Infrastructure and Youth in Agribusiness Project (AIYAP), is inviting applications from qualified youths for a 2 months Certificate training opportunity in Agri-entrepreneurship at LUANAR NRC Campus.
