The U.S. Mission Lilongwe, Malawi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter. The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)
This position is located in the Consolidated Facilities Maintenance Section, US Mission, Lilongwe, Malawi. The primary purpose of this position is to perform carpentry projects involving Mission offices, warehouse and residences, repairs and renovations to buildings and minor repairs on offices and household furniture. Interprets construction drawings for renovations.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of journeyman experience required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must be fully knowledgeable in all aspects of carpentry craftsmanship. Basic knowledge of other crafts e.g. bricklaying, plumbing e.t.c.
Completion of secondary school. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman level skills. Grade 1 National Trade Test and/or City and Guilds Craft Certificates.
LANGUAGE: Level II English and Level II Chichewa (Local)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to use all tools of carpentry trade. Must have basic computer skills in word processing to be able to write reports and respond to maintenance requests.
Incumbent must have a valid drivers license and the ability to drive. Incumbent upon being hired must successfully complete the safe drive course and will be required to pass medical examination tests.
