Position: Communications and Entrepreneurship Intern
Positions Available: 1
Duration: 4 months; from the 1st of April 2019 to the 1st of August 2019 Working schedule: Full time; 5 days per week

Tingathe seeks to catalyse socio economic growth in partnership with young people who have dropped out of school and are unemployed, a population often overlooked by youth development projects particularly in peri-urban zones. These young people have great need for the skills Tingathe offers, yet we are one of the only service providers in the area. In contrast to larger projects run by other NGOs, Tingathe has been implementing its programmes in Mtandire for the initial phase and will this year commence implementing an expansion plan that will extend the impact area across Lilongwe and into other districts of the country. Tingathe is a product of the response to a need for entrepreneurship and life skills training and access to skills that boost employability expressed by the vulnerable young people themselves. Our focus on the creation of networks and value chains also serves to connect Tingathe youth to numerous opportunities, access to business networks and markets as well as access to micro loans and seed grants.
Tingathe youth are required to complete 20 “core modules” that include professionalism, business planning, financial literacy, and marketing (other more interest-specific modules are provided after the core modules are completed to each of the five core groups.
Tingathe is an entrepreneurship and life skills training focused organisation that prepares young people to take on various forms of employment or to create entrepreneurship opportunities for themselves and others that capitalize on their skills and interests. In our technical training, we have worked to build relationships with private sector employers and are able to offer participants a variety of different opportunities for internships and apprenticeship as well as post programme employment. Our rehabilitation programme is designed to prepare youths that are facing challenges surrounding drug and alcohol addiction, depression and other challenges that affect their mental and physical health. This programme is designed to help particularly challenged youth to reach a state where they can then benefit from specific training programmes.
