The Tobacco Commission was established by an Act of Parliament under the Tobacco Industry Act No. 10 of 2019. The Commission is responsible for the provision of regulatory services, promotion and development of the Tobacco Industry in Malawi. In order to efficiently and effectively execute its mandate, the Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates of Malawi origin to fill the following vacant position tenable at its Head Office, at Kanengo in Lilongwe.

DATABASE AND SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

THE JOB FUNCTION

Reporting to the ICT Manger, the Database and System Administrator, will be responsible for Designing and implementation of Database, schema, security, access, reports queries, edit data, data backup, disaster recovery and System Administration

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, Build and Install Database Management System design and implementation MS SQL, MySQL, Couch DB;
  • Be able to code PH P, C#, .NET, Android Dev but not primary;
  • Liaise with Developers in database design;
  • Monitor Ensure efficient and platform availability;
  • Create users, assign Passwords and Maintain Database Security;
  • Backup restore and data disaster recovery plan;
  • Advise on long term capacity plans and growth;
  • Data mining, modifying and analytics;
  • Fine tuning and query optimizing;
  • Security and integrity of data;
  • Provide System User Support;
  • Investigate and trouble issues;
  • Carry out System Installations Maintenance upgrade and Monitoring;
  • Managing Resources Automating and optimization;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The candidate must possess a bachelor’s Degree in Computer Sciences or Information Technology or business information system at least a Bachelor’s.
  • At 5 years’ experience of exposure to both in-house or outsourced systems and related professional qualification
