The Malawi Law Society (the Society), a dynamic body corporate established under the Legal Education and Legal Practitioners Act, 2017, Cap. 3:04 of the Laws of Malawi, to inter alia promote the highest professional standards among legal practitioners and in legal practice; to enhance credibility on the delivery of legal services; to promote integrity, competence and transparency of professional services in legal practice; and to promote matters of public interest touching, ancillary or incidental to the law, invites applications from suitably qualified Malawians for the vacancy listed below:


Key Responsibilities:

Co-ordinate the implementation of the Society’s Strategic Plan.
Undertake the day-to-day management of the Society’s secretariat
Exercise executive and administrative control over staff of the Society
Organise Continuing Legal Education seminars run by the Society.
Assist the Society’s Disciplinary Committee in receiving and processing all complaints received by the Society against its members.
Assist the Society in the production of the Society’s newsletter and law journal.
Supervise the accounting function.
Maintain and/or initiate links/contacts with other Law Societies/Bar Associations, Professional Bodies, Government Ministries/Departments and any other institutions whose activities may be relevant to the objects of the Society.
Represent the Society in any forum as the Executive Committee may determine.
Arrange the Society’s Executive Committee, General, and the Annual General Meetings.
Carry out any other assignments as directed by the President of the Society or the Executive Committee from time to time.

Essential Requirements:

A Law Degree from a recognised University and must have practiced the profession of law for a minimum of five (5) years. Those with a Masters’ Degree will have an added advantage.
Strong organisational, communication and diplomatic skills,
Possession of a valid driving licence.
High level of energy with veritable tenacity to getting things done working on own initiative with minimum supervision.
Ability to work as a member of a team.

Desirable Requirements:

Project Management Skills
Computer skills.

The successful candidates will be employed under the Society’s renewable employment contract making a minimum commitment of three (3) years’ service to the Society.
