The Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to a Two-year Training Program in Certificate in General Forestry tenable at Malawi College of Forestry & Wildlife (MCF&W), Dedza. After Successful completion of the Training Program, students will be recruited on probationary appointment as Forestry Assistant (Grade M)

Grade of Post: M

Responsible to: Assistant Forestry Officer (Grade K)

Location: All Districts and Plantations across the country

Salary: Within Grade M Salary Scale Segment


Applicants either Male or Female who have a Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent with six credits in the following Subjects: English, Maths, Biology, Physical Science, Geography and Agriculture.

Patrolman (Grade Q) and Forest Guard (Grade 0) serving under the Department of Forestry or other officers of the same grades in other Ministries and Departments who have six credits at MSCE as stated above are encouraged to apply.


Not more than 30 years of age


  • Enforce and interpret the forest policy and law
  • Conduct forest resource assessment and mapping
  • Protect forest resources
  • Promote and establish forest plantations
  • Create forest reserves and protection of catchment areas
  • Empower communities in management of forest resources considering gender issues.
  • Co-ordinate forest development activities with other Stakeholders
  • Train staff on forestry sector needs
  • Disseminate forestry related information
  • Undertake supervision of subordinate staff
  • Provide information on management and prices of forest products
  • Formulate and implement Annual Plans of Operations at the (Extension Planning Area
  • (EPA).

  • Promote multiple uses of forest resources.
