About One Acre Fund

One Acre Fund works to make African smallholder farmers more prosperous. We supply everything farmers need to grow more food and earn more income. We deliver quality farm supplies on credit, deep in rural areas, and trainings to improve farmers’ harvests. We currently serve 600,000 clients in six countries across Eastern and Southern Africa, and we aim to reach 1 million farm families by 2020.

Job Description

We are looking for an intern to join our Impact Ventures team. The Impact Ventures team in Malawi identifies, tests, and rolls out both new and improved products and services for our farmers. Essentially, we think holistically about our program’s impact footprint and ways in which we can continue to maximize it.

The Intern will be based in Zomba, Malawi: S/he will be responsible for the following;

Support the day-to-day activities of One Acre Fund’s Impact Ventures Tree programs including but not limited to:

  • IV scouting and Expansion to new areas
  • Tree Market Survey Execution and support in data management
  • Recruitment and hiring of seasonal staff (e.g. Field Assistants, Tree Group Leaders)
  • Support in the creation and editing of FA trainings
  • Undertake an independent stretch project that will contribute to the program’s success and professional development as specified by the program lead

Technical exposure:

Familiarity with Microsoft package.

Professional experience:

  • Maintaining a long-term perspective when faced with urgent operational demands.
  • Working at a young organization that is growing rapidly, which means pitching in to ensure the very best support and services to both our clients and team

Qualifications

We are seeking an exceptional, early career professional with 0-1 years of experience. Candidates fitting the following profile are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Citizenship in MALAWI – you will be asked to submit a copy of your passport bio-data page or your national ID card.
  • Exceptional recent college graduates or young professional with Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Community /Rural development, or any other related fields. Individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree as of June 2019 are eligible for One Acre Fund internships/fellowships
  • Strong work experiences. Examples include summer jobs, internships, fellowships or research positions while at school.
  • Leadership experience at work, school clubs, volunteer organizations etc.
  • Top-performing undergraduate background (include GPA/Marks on your application).
  • Strong interest in One Acre Fund’s work serving smallholder farmers.
  • Strong desire for personal and professional growth
  • Flexibility and a willingness to take on varied tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and part of a team
  • Analytical skills
  • Good facilitation skills
  • Fluent in English and Chichewa

Compensation

This is a paid fellowship. Fellows will be provided with a reasonable stipend for the duration of their contract. Rural area based fellows will be provided assistance in locating suitable housing. The fellowship/internship program is a recruiting initiative. Historically, about 40% of interns and fellows are hired on to full-time roles.
