Job title: Volunteer Coordinator                                Work Location: Lilongwe Wildlife Centre
Reports to: LWC General Manager
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The primary focus of the Volunteer Coordinator (VC) is to be the face of LWT and ensure a high standard of service and program delivery to Wildlife Centre volunteers. Key areas of work include arrivals/departures, accommodation management, daily scheduling and supporting all volunteers to ensure they have the best experience possible.

 

Working under the direction of the GM, the VC responsibilities include the following:

Welcome new arrivals, provide induction/orientation training and welcome packs adhering to LWT guidelines, as well as collecting and recording any in-country final payments.
Manage the volunteer house & chalet accommodation – allocation of beds, provision of supplies and information, pest control and general quality control including reporting maintenance issues to management.
Management of house chef and housekeeper including supervising daily tasks and managing days off, developing menus and ensuring special dietary requirements are adhered to.
Financial management of the LWC volunteer program, including monthly expenditure projections & accounting.
Match volunteer skills and interests to project activities, ensuring maximum satisfaction when creating daily personalized schedules for each volunteer.
Work closely with Veterinary and Research managers on the delivery of specialized volunteer programs.
Work alongside the Rehabilitation Manager and Veterinarian to ensure all wildlife related activities are well covered and relevant training is provided. Where necessary also help with these activities.
Lead volunteers on non-wildlife related projects e.g. education projects, signage, trail maintenance etc.
Provide daily support to volunteers regarding activities, health & safety, providing local information and in booking external activities e.g. trips within Malawi/Zambian safaris.
Be an ambassador for LWT and encourage engagement with volunteers which may lead to repeat visitation, fundraising or future support for LWT.
Ensure feedback, relevant photos and LWT equipment is collected prior to volunteer departures in addition to providing leaving packs and promoting LWT fundraising opportunities.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

·       This is a customer service position requiring a sociable, approachable and emotionally mature character with a high level of personal energy.

·       Applicants with qualifications and/or previous experience in hospitality/tourism will have a serious added advantage.

·       A good level of organization is required to work autonomously & multi-task.

·       Experience with accounting or an aptitude with numbers is desirable.

·       Must be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a positive attitude and be a great team player.

·       Ability to carry out responsibilities within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
