Nursing Assistant — Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (2)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Nursing Officer and the Paediatric haematology oncology specialist, the Nursing Assistant will participate in the day-to-day operations of the pediatric hematology-oncology ward and outpatient, and be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients. He/She will assist in the Obtaining vital signs, height and weight and document in the patient record. Transport patients to and from other departments as needed. Collect blood using finger stick method and Urine samples for analysis and performing basic nursing procedures , record intake and output, will also assist patients with everyday needs and assisting nursing staff with end of life care and Last office.

Qualifications and Experience Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job:

• Secondary school completion
• Previous experience in a nonprofessional healthcare provider is preferred with knowledge of vital sign measurement, obtaining height and weight in children, recording input and output, blood drawing, administering personal care, assisting with nursing procedures
• Working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions applicable to work in a hospital
• Working knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed
• Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatment to patients
• Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking
• Heavy lifting and ability to transport patients to various hospital locations may be required
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to document and communicate pertinent information paper documentation tools
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff.

Those with an Oncology knowledge and/or mentorship experience will have an added advantage.
