Job Title:  Organizational Development and Capacity Building Advisor

Overview:

IBTCI is seeking an Organizational Development and Capacity Building Specialist to serve under a long-term USAID/Malawi monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and capacity building support contract.  The anticipated period of performance is mid-2020 to mid-2025 and work will be performed in Lilongwe, Malawi. International and local applicants are encouraged to apply, with a preference toward local applicants. This position is contingent on award.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the design and implementation of capacity -efforts for USAID and local implementers, that may include USAID Mission Staff, implementing partners and Government of Malawi agencies and staff;
  • Assess organizational capacity of partner organizations using established industry assessment tools and methods;
  • Conduct training and other needs assessments;
  • Provide training, technical assistance and mentoring for assigned clients and partner organizations;
  • Develop tools to measure capacity building results, including pre- and post-training assessments;
  • Monitor activities, budgets and capacity building outcomes;
  • Meet with and represent project to USAID and key partners;
  • Contribute to quarterly, annual and other reporting to donor and key stakeholders; and
  • Support learning, training and other ad hoc requests and events requested by USAID.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience working with international donor (particularly USAID)-funded programs is highly desirable.
  • Experienced developing professional training programs;
  • Knowledgeable about principles of adult learning and instructional design;
  • Experience organizing professional events and learning activities;
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent facilitation and team management skills; and
  • Keen attention to detail.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject required; Master’s preferred;
  • Experience designing and implementing capacity building activities in Malawi;
  • Experience using industry tools to assess organizational capacity and training needs;
  • Full proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel required.
  • Experience in designing and implementing capacity building projects, preferably in Malawi.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of development Building/Knowledge Management systems, training materials and events management;
  • Professional oral and written fluency in English.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree is required. Masters or higher university degree in relevant subject areas including Organizational Development, International Development, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field are highly desirable.

Working Environment:  Work is typically performed in an office environment. Work is performed in Malawi.

Physical Requirements:  This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility:  This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel: Travel in and around Malawi is required.

Work Authorization:  Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States or Malawi.
