Malawi Fertilizer Company invites applications from suitably qualified and result driven candidates for consideration to fill the following positions tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit & Risk, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following, inter alia:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of business processes in scope for assigned audits
  • Identifying and documenting inherent risks and controls within the business processes.
  • Developing a risk-based test plan based on professional judgment and departmentally defined internal audit methodology.
  • Performing audit tests and preparing working papers in accordance with the professional IIA standard methodology.
  • Identifying and documenting control and process weaknesses and provide evidential support for findings.
  • Proposing practical and value-added recommendations to address control weaknesses and/or process inefficiencies.
  • Participating in opening meetings with clients to explain the scope and objectives of the audit engagement.
  • Participating in closing meetings with the client at the end of fieldwork; providing clear explanations for identifying issues.
  • Assisting in the preparation of a concise and informative audit report to effectively communicate the findings and recommendations to concerned departments and senior management.
  • Supporting the Head of Internal Audit in the development and implementation of the evolving IA methodology.
  • Contributing to the safeguarding of corporate assets by ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place and operating effectively.
  • Conducting investigations of suspected internal fraud.
  • Providing consultative support to departments with regard to the adequate design and execution of risk management processes.

Experience/Qualification/Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or closely related field
  • Affiliation to a professional Accounting and/or Auditing body.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of COSO Risk and Internal Control framework would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of professional IIA performance standards with regard to planning, testing, sampling and documentation.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • Solid understanding of risk and control concepts.
